Attend this session to learn about OLA’s Advocacy Toolkit (Download it here: and how you can use the resources and templates to effectively advocate for your public library. Presenters will provide some concrete examples from their advocacy experiences in diverse public library settings. Attendees will be invited to reflect on their current advocacy activities and brainstorm and share ideas for future initiatives.

About the Presenters:
Alexandra Yarrow is a manager at the Ottawa Public Library. She has been involved in professional library associations at the local, provincial and federal level, and has been involved in advocacy work on these levels for her library, for associations, and library partners. Alexandra is also the founder and president of the Ottawa children’s non-profit Twice Upon a Time.
Dana Vanzanten is a manager at St. Thomas Public Library.  Community development is a major part of her role, and she is passionate about communicating the value of the library to a variety of stakeholders, including community members and officials at the municipal and provincial level. She is currently co-chair of the OLA Advocacy Committee.

Ardis Proulx-Chedore has been employed for almost 10 years at the Cochrane Public Library in Cochrane Ontario. As a Library and Information Technician she is currently in the role of Program Coordinator for her library which sees her work with the public in the developing, facilitation, maintenance and promotion of programming for all ages. Basically, she is a walking and talking advocacy tool for her library, and sometimes they pay her in brownies.
